In December 2007, an associate at General Mitchell International
Airport in Milwaukee suffered the loss of her home due to a devastating
explosion. The associate had lost everything, including every single
present she had gotten for her grandchildren. Little did she know
that Santa Claus lived in Milwaukee, and he went by Larry Verkeyn.
On Christmas Eve, Santa Larry guided his “sleigh” to the local hotel
the family was staying at, carrying lots of presents, Christmas
dinner, and a seven foot tree with 1,000 lights.
Navigating the tree up two narrow flights of stairs (branches falling
and lights dangling), he made it to the top. Following closely were
the new presents, decorations, and dinner. Larry placed the tree
in the stand, hung the ornaments, and set up the family’s first
present, a DVD player. When the grandchildren came home, their eyes
grew big with excitement. Santa had been there! Larry Verkeyn knew
the true meaning of the holidays, and made sure The Paradies Shops’
family culture knew no bounds.
